How Builders Get Paid

What is a “Builder”?

At the time of writing this, the humanDAO community is over 20k members on Discord. It’s a big community. So how do we differentiate between the different roles in the community? We split it out in to two groups: Community & Builders (for sake of simplicity, although we are all part of the community).

If you access the humanDAO Discord Server, you will only see the #builder-interest channel. To become a Builder, post in the #builder-interest channel stating your interest in joining the Builder side of the DAO. One of the Functional Leads will reach out and give you Builder permissions unlocking all of the hidden Builder channels.

Our Philosophy on Builder Compensation

Builders are the lifeblood of all DAOs, so we take the Builder Experience & Compensation seriously. Being a new DAO, we will be continually iterating and working to review and improve the process. Our Builder Compensation should achieve the following objectives:

  1. Ownership- we strive to make all builders and community members meaningful owners of the DAO. If you are going to participate and build, you should own the DAO. We didn’t sell any tokens to VCs. It’s a purely grassroots operations and so we have set aside a huge chunk of tokens for our builders and community to become real owners.

  2. Opportunity- any builder who comes in can contribute at any level they see fit and be able to scale that up as they see fit. There should be ample opportunity for growth and compensation should scale with that growth.

  3. Transparency- in line with the general ethos of crypto, compensation should be fully open and clear. No games need to be played to earn more. No sweet deals for certain, favored builders behind the scenes.

  4. Flexibility- humanDAO is not a traditional corporation. It’s a meritocracy. And those who are aligned with the mission and show up to build should be compensated based on their contributions (not how loud the speak). We have tried to build a model that addresses someone who wants to contribute 1 hour to the DAO per month all the way up to full time employees and everything in between.
